An article that was due for a long time. I had applied for the senior software engineer role in Bloomberg London on Linkedin, within two working days I received a call from the recruiter. They explained the interview process and asked me to choose few dates for my screening round.

Preparation

For the initial screening round, I had prepared mostly from Leetcode and tried to cover all the leetcode tagged questions available. I also went through glassdoor interview experiences. I focussed mostly on medium and hard-level problems in Leetcode and also went through a few of the tech blogs on the Bloomberg careers page which gave me more idea about the tech and culture adopted in Bloomberg. This helps in asking the right kind of questions at the end of the interview.

Screening Round

The screening round was for 1 hour conducted on the Hackerrank platform. The interviewer introduced himself for the first five minutes and we dived directly into the question. I have signed an NDA due to which I cannot tell the questions which I was asked but it was an LC medium question and similar to tagged questions available in the discussion.

Expectations

  1. Thinking out loud.
  2. Fairly optimized code
  3. Writing test cases
  4. Code should be fully compiled

Testing and optimization were the two key factors I believe Bloomberg focuses on most.

Tip : keep at least 10 mins aside to think about all the possible test cases you can implement on your code.

I gave few dates and also asked the recruiter to schedule a call to explain to me more about the next steps and expectations.

This call helped me a lot in streamlining my preparation and the recruiter also gave me an idea of what questions to ask and how to prepare for behavioral rounds. I recommend everyone to schedule call with the recruiters before giving interviews as they give important insights for…
